Kate is a highly experienced, dual-qualified Nurse (Registered General Nurse and Registered Paediatric Nurse) with over 35 years of experience working with children, young people, and adults in diverse roles and settings. She has significant clinical expertise in caring for individuals with complex long-term health conditions, including brain injuries, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries and other life-limiting conditions and disabilities. Kate has developed specialist knowledge in children’s health, epilepsy management, advanced clinical practice and safeguarding through postgraduate training and extensive professional experience.
Much of Kate’s career has focused on supporting children and young adults through some of life’s most challenging circumstances. She has worked closely with children with severe disabilities, children in care, care leavers, unaccompanied minors, and teenage mothers, providing guidance, care, and advocacy. Her experience across a variety of settings enables her to understand the unique needs of each individual and make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Case management is central to Kate’s practice. She is frequently appointed as the Lead Professional, completing comprehensive assessments, care planning, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and outcome-driven care. Kate collaborates with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and colleagues across acute and community health services, social care, and education.
Kate specialises in holistic assessments that consider physical, emotional, social, and environmental needs unique to each individual. Kate applies this approach as a Case Manager and Expert Witness in Medico-Legal cases, ensuring assessments are thorough, balanced, and person-centred. Kate has also undertaken professional training in report writing and the preparation of written evidence.
Kate has extensive experience applying a trauma-informed approach in her practice, ensuring both physical and psychological needs are considered. She has completed training in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing (MI), and employing a psychodynamic approach.
Passionate about collaboration, Kate advocates for clients and their families, ensuring access to appropriate services, resources, and ongoing support. She prides herself on being able to build positive, trusting relationships, promoting engagement and collaboration in care.
Throughout her career, Kate has worked with highly complex and vulnerable clients, where safeguarding has been a key feature. In her roles with children and young people in care, including Named and Designated Nurse positions, she has developed extensive experience in assessment, care planning, and coordinating multi-agency responses. This experience underpins her case management practice and informs her supervision, advice, and support of colleagues to ensure safe and effective care.
Kate has significant leadership experience in children’s health services, including managing the 0–19 Children’s Community Service and the Family Nurse Partnership programme. She has developed strong operational and strategic management skills, overseeing multidisciplinary teams, implementing service improvements, and delivering high-quality care. Kate has worked extensively with local authority bodies, including Clinical Commissioning Groups, which has equipped her with a strong understanding of statutory services and the complexities of care delivery.
Kate is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), is on the pre-registrant pathway for the Institute of Registered Case Managers (IRCM), and is a member of the British Association of Brain Injury & Complex Case Management (BABICM).
