Sarah is a Case Manager with over eight years of experience managing adults who have sustained a brain injury, spinal cord injury and other complex physical or psychological trauma. She has worked under a joint and single instruction basis and is committed to promoting effective communication and robust clinical reasoning to support a bespoke approach to clients’ rehabilitation.

As an Occupational Therapist, she has practised across a variety of clinical settings in England, Ireland and the United States. Her breadth of experience has enabled her to maintain and develop her scope of occupational therapy skills and thus support her commitment to holistic and comprehensive assessment and treatment planning. Sarah has worked in acute, rehabilitative, and community settings with patients with neurological and palliative illnesses, and on cardiac, respiratory, orthopaedic and surgical wards, and psychiatric settings with young people, adults and older adults. Due to her experience in mental health, she is skilled at working with individuals with complex presentations and adjustment difficulties following illness and injury and is knowledgeable on how this influences participation in rehabilitation. Sarah has worked extensively with families, carers and professionals involved in patient care. She has experience working within the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

Sarah is committed to continuously improving her practice. She is currently undertaking the Lifestyle Redesign course series via the University of Southern California, aimed at developing advanced practice knowledge and skills to support people living with or at risk of developing chronic conditions. Sarah has previously focused towards integrating the Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model (OTIPM) (Fisher, 2009) into her clinical practice and as a student placement facilitator. She has taught this as part of a module at Canterbury Christchurch University and contributed to a book entitled Implementing Occupation-centred Practice: A Practical Guide for Occupational Therapy Practice Learning.

Sarah has published her MSc research and has presented at a number of conferences with regards to her service development projects in vision rehabilitation and inpatient mental health. She has contributed to NICE guidelines ‘Transition from children’s to adults’ services for young people using health or social care services.

In addition to case management, Sarah maintains her direct therapeutic practice, previously working in pain management and currently as an independent occupational therapist working with individuals where their mental health is a significant symptom and limitation within their rehabilitation.

Sarah is a member of the British Association of Brain Injury & Complex Case Management (BABICM),

registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC); and a professional member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT).
