It was great to get together as a team this week for the first session in our NeuroHealth webinar series, which will see a guest speaker present to our team each month on their specialist area.
To kick off the series, we had a talk from the excellent Sally de la Fontaine, Neuro & Vestibular Physiotherapist – a font of knowledge on all things neuro & vestibular!
Sally’s talk covered: “postural control and gravity, the relationship between movement control and the senses, and the functional consequences of vestibular dysfunction.”
Key take away points included:
– The integration of sensory-motor skills that form the vestibular system and the impact of vestibular dysfunction on our clients physically, emotionally and cognitively.
– The ‘red flags’ indicating vestibular concerns for Case Managers to look out for.
– How to introduce and support meaningful rehabilitation, and the importance of a collaborative, joint multi-disciplinary team working approach and how that can influence successful outcomes for our clients.
Also discussed was the Vestibular Interdisciplinary Working Group (VIWG) https://www.viwg.co.uk/ – a group of neurorehabilitation professionals who through collaborative knowledge and resource sharing, research and education aim to enable clients towards more independent living.
Thank you Sally for a very interesting and informative talk! What a wonderful way to start the series.
We can’t wait for the next webinar in October, when guest speaker Kelly Thrussell of access:technology will be talking about digital wellbeing and how to support our clients online.
