This week saw another fantastic session in our NeuroHealth webinar series, featuring the brilliant guest speaker Kelly Thrussell, Director of www.accesstechnology.co.uk, an Independent Assistive Technology Consultancy specialising in supporting clients with brain injuries and who also provide bespoke assessment, intervention and training to clients to enable them to safely access the internet.
Kelly’s talk on their bespoke Digital Wellbeing service was really thought-provoking given that so many of our clients who have suffered life-changing injuries rely on the internet to enable them to communicate and interact with others, access communities, demonstrate autonomy, and express their social identity; it also allows them to present themselves in the way they choose, rather than how they may be perceived.
Risk, vulnerability and capacity were considered alongside the importance of enabling clients to access the internet safely through:
– Supporting clients to make healthy choices.
– Strategies to enable monitoring and restriction of access, where appropriate.
– Creating a positive, open and safe environment.
Thank you Kelly for another very interesting and informative talk!
