Last Wednesday we had the huge privilege of listening to Dr Sonja Soeterik, Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology and Clinical Director of Neurolink Psychology, provide a fascinating talk as the guest speaker in our NeuroHealth webinar series.
The topic of the talk, ‘Catastrophic brain injury: What about the family?’, considered and recognised the impact brain injury has not just on the individual it happens to but also on the family and support network around the individual.
Sonja’s insightful talk covered the wider considerations for understanding why families may deal differently with the complex loss and grief that follows a brain injury of a loved one, and how they may manage those feelings and included:
– Theories on the stages of grief and loss.
– Making meaning out of loss.
– Continuing bonds and transformed relationships.
– The implications of ambiguous loss and its complexities.
– The opportunities for growth in relationships, personal strength and appreciation of life post-brain injury.
Thank you, Sonja, for providing such an informative and engaging webinar to the team, on a crucial subject that is at the core of rehabilitation and recovery following a brain injury.
