It was an inspiring start to the 2024 NeuroHealth webinar series on Tuesday with Tom Taverner, Physiotherapist at, Founder and Clinical Director of, VIM Health – Robotic-Assisted Therapies, as guest speaker.
Tom’s talk covered what rehabilitation currently looks like in the UK for most and the part that social determinants of health (including social isolation and social support) have to play in rehabilitation outcomes, highlighting the complex and interdependent relationship between social circumstances and neurological rehabilitation. We also looked at the Rehabilitation Principles (Maier 2019), including dosage/duration; task-specific practice; increasing difficulty/complexity, and being goal orientated.
As a neurological outpatient rehabilitation centre, VIM Health recognises the importance of these and their rehabilitation approach considers the clients’ physical, social, and economic environments and aims to provide instrumental, informational and emotional support. Their centre has been innovatively designed to provide a socialised experience within a welcoming environment, with access to the latest in neurorehabilitation technology, which is a far cry from the often sterile world many who have suffered life-changing injuries will have experienced, creating a space that clients look forward to going to. Their bespoke intensive rehabilitation packages are designed with the above principles at their core, to suit the client with where they are on their rehabilitation journey and to enable them to reach their individual goals.
It was very interesting to learn about what VIM Health do and why, and to see case studies of clients who have so clearly benefitted from their services – a big thank you, Tom!
