The April 2024 NeuroHealth External Speaker Webinar featured Louise Rogerson, Chartered Physiotherapist and Allied Health Professional Lead at Levitex – Sleep posture experts.
Levitex is a sleep postural management systems developer and provider set up by James Leinhardt, who has a wealth of knowledge in nighttime postural care and has designed class-one medical devices to manage the posture for clients suffering from complex neurological illness and injury. Louise, Levitex’s Allied Health Professional Lead, is a Chartered Physiotherapist by background and has served on the national committee for the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists In Neurology.
Following on from last month’s webinar on the psychology of sleep, Louise’s talk focused on the physiology of sleep and considered the key postural systems, and the impact brain injury and impaired cognition can have upon these.
Louise detailed the impact of poor posture and the key postures which may be an issue, and the relationship between pain management and sleep and, therefore, the importance, and aims, of postural management. We looked at provocative sleep postures and found out who in the NeuroHealth team were “dreamers”, “soldiers” or “hedgehogs”! Louise also provided an update on the possibilities for sleep systems in clinical practice, and explored the challenges of posture management in the wider community and the need for ongoing research in this area.
Thank you Louise for a really informative, relevant and interesting talk. As well as sharing the knowledge gained to support our clients to benefit from improved sleep management, we are sure many of the NeuroHealth team have changed their own sleep posture after the session and are feeling the benefits!
